I am loving Colorado and if I didn't have family in Washington, I could move here and be happy the rest of my life. It has everything that I love about this planet. My walking trails (multiple) are along a creek that at times looks like a river. There are amazing mountains, trees, animals (I have seen deer, coyotes and lots of rabbits), gorgeous sunsets, mountains rain storms and best of all - It is not as hot as Tri-Cities, WA.
Life is also busy here taking care of our 260 missionaries' health issues. Almost every day I get phone calls from the sisters and elders about some problem. I have access to a lot of information on my missionary website and I also have an Area Medical Advisor who is a retired OB/GYN Dr. She is so kind and whenever I call for advice, she acts like she has all the time in the world to talk to me. So interesting to me is the fact that she is over 19 missions and I represent one mission to her. There are so many people that give such great service out here, that it truly humbles me.
I must give a short report of some of the health problems I have dealt with. There are upper respiratory infections, orthopedic problems, depression, headaches, altitude issues, GI problems, female issues, dermatology, eye problems, ear problems, mouth problems, and we had an Elder who had to have one of his testicles removed due to severe infection and I am just starting. The good news is that I do enjoy helping these wonderful missionaries with their health problems.
Fred and I are going to church at a small branch in the heart of Denver. Lots of poverty and everything else that goes along with that. Fred has been asked to help with the scouting program in this branch and we have so far been assigned about 5 families to get to know and friendship. One interesting thing to share is our first visit was to a young man (member of the church) and his family. His parents were killed in a motorcycle accident when he was about 8 years old. He and his sisters were split up and he was raised by an aunt and uncle who were anti-Mormon. When we first went to his house, he saw our name tags and raised his hands to us and said, "I don't want anything to do with the church". I kept going and explained that we were new in Denver and just wanted to meet him and could I just shake his hand. How could he refuse me? We visited for about 10 minutes and he mentioned that he wanted to move back to Washington state. I asked where and he said Prescott. Come to find out, his aunt and uncle raised him off Badger Rd. in Kennewick and he went to middle school @ Desert Hills Middle School. WOW. Did the Lord line that one up? Since then we have visited with his wife Cindy who is interested in going to a church and she told us last night that she told her husband that they needed God in their marriage and they had a huge discussion about that. AND then we showed up......WOW! I love this work.
